Validation of the ANL Plant Dynamics Code Compressor Model with SNL/BNI Compressor Test Data

The Plant Dynamics Code (PDC) for system level transient analysis of the supercritical carbon dioxide (S-CO2) Brayton cycle and the development and testing of cycle control strategies has been under development at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) for several years. The experiment data from a small-scale S-CO2 recompression cycle demonstration operated by the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and Barber-Nichols Inc. (BNI) has been utilized in ongoing testing and validation of the compressor model of the PDC. The experiment data covers a wide range of operating conditions around the critical point from supercritical fluid to supercritical liquid to subcritical liquid at the compressor inlet. The results of the compressor model calculations show good agreement with the experiment results for the compressor-outlet pressures and temperatures.
